Help Make My Film Production Journal Entry - January 11, 2004 Well, the holidays are over and a new year has begun. I took some time away from this project for my own personal reflections and spiritual rejuvenation. The results are a stronger conviction to the completion of this project. The Band: I've lost my drummer and now my guitarist. The guitarist had some personal conflicts going on that were getting in the way of participating in this project. Too bad, he is one of the best guitarists I've seen in a long time. But I'm working on replacing him now. There were a few people I auditioned before him and I made calls to some others that I found on a website with artists looking to join bands. I still have to put some new ads up in Sam Ash and the Guitar Center (local music stores) for the project. Rehearsal Space: I had a wonderful rehearsal studio step up and donate time for the band to rehearse on off-hours. But I also found an awesome warehouse where the band will set up house for a year or so. It's a great location in an industrial district where we can work well into the evening hours and on the weekends to create the music for the film and for the band demo. The warehouse is supposed to be ready by the beginning of February. There is another tenant already in there that is slowly moving out. I think the guy renting it became ill and couldn't keep the space. The warehouse is also a great space for rehearsing the film's cast once we get to that stage. I'll also be able to use it for band photos, movie publicity shots and filming movie scenes when a location is too inconvenient or impossible to find. The Film: I've had the script out in front of me for the past couple of months to work on storyboards but time and other distractions have prohibited me from giving the boards the creative focus that they need. My break (vacation if you will) has helped that a bit so I'm back working on those. I originally placed my goal date as September 2004 for filming to begin but I am now leaving the possibility open that it will take more time to get to the filming stage. I was hoping by now that I would have done my first wacky fundraising stunt but reality has prevented me from attaining that goal. So instead of getting totally frustrated, I am just going to take each step slowly and continue making baby steps until I can get the whole thing moving at a steady flow. That at least removes a lot of the pressure that I have been placing on myself to making this project happen faster. I also contacted one of the local fine arts colleges to find some photography students to work on content for the website and promotional pictures of the band. I have one young lady stopping by Tuesday to take a look at some of her work. Since the other photographer that was supposed to work with me flaked out on me, I am just going to look for another more reliable source. Once the music has been put together for the demo CD, I'll begin working on a promo video for the presentation pieces I'm putting together to get corporate sponsors to donate equipment and financial contributions. I've already begun putting the sponsorship proposal together. Vince from Arcane Entertainment has already agreed to helping me with that. So that's the update of the past couple of weeks. I have an appointment to audition a new drummer today so I'll have to leave shortly for that. - Evann Black |
