Help Make My Film Production Journal Entry - September 18, 2003

Yesterday I got a phone call back from the organization that hosts the  Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts program and actually had a very encouraging  conversation with the marketing director. The group is Artserve and they're a Florida organization that provides a variety of services  for artists and arts groups. Once I explained the project to him, he arranged  for the next step.

 Artserve has a law student who works in the office and handles (along with  other duties) assigning the lawyers who work either pro bono or at discounted  rates. I think that's all based on what services I need. I don't think  I can ask them to rewrite the constitution but they probably offer lots  of good legal advice and assist with simple contracts. More detailed stuff,  we'll probably have to work out other terms.

 So I'm writing out a list of things that I currently need legal advice  on and a list of items that I expect to deal with in the future. I have  briefly connected with the lawyer they've assigned to me and will speak  with him Friday to see how we can work together.

 As for the rewrite, well I'm nearing the end with only a few scenes left  to write. My mind seems to be clearing from the characters that have been  driving this story. It's kind of like straightening up the bookshelf that  you rummaged through looking for a quote to use in a special love note.  You can't put all the books away until you find just the right quote.

 I have to check in with Costumes Etc to see if they've made any progress  with my wacky stunt #1 costume & mini parasail. I'm hoping I can start  testing it this weekend.

 If it looks like it's going to take more time to get the costume made,  I have an alternative stunt that will be just as wacky but won't require  as much preparation. So I'll know more on Friday.

 My mind is so wracked from the rewrite that I have been drawing a blank  on writing my press releases. I started looking on the internet for ideas  and tips but it only made my head hurt trying to assimilate all of this  new information. So I wrote some notes and will start on my first one when  I'm finished with the rewrite.

 I'll have to find the right media outlets for their distribution. I've  been checking out local publications and periodicals to find out which  journalists are covering similar stories. The main thing is figuring out  how to get their attention since they probably get hundreds of press releases  each week. Or would that be the story editor? Urghh so many details on  such an important step on this journey. Gotta have some press to get the  word out. Oh well, I'm optimistic since I've been getting a lot of positive  feedback and well wishes from people.

 Finally, I still have to make posts on message boards. I've noticed that  I have been getting more views from the Google boards so I may focus more  on those in the coming weeks. Sometimes I wonder why I need to write on  them, but I know for now it's the main way to get the word out.

 Oh well, another productive day gone is one day closer to making this film.
