Help Make My Film Production Journal Entry - September 21, 2003
I finished my first press release for this project and boy that is a load off my mind. Now I have to work on sending them out by e-mail and fax. I guess I'll fax and e-mail major newspapers in large cities then just e-mail to smaller papers to keep my phone bill down. Sending faxes cross-country can be expensive.
Writing the first press release was tough. I've written press releases before only because I had to but never for my own ventures. This was interesting. I really took the time to research what I needed to do by punching in the words "how to write press releases" into the Google search engine and it pulled up all these wonderful websites with free tips on writing them. Then I just put in the basics of who, what, where, when and why with no hype, just facts. I tried to make sure everything was in present tense, spell-checked it then edited it down to 250 words or less and bada-bing, I've got my first press release.
Now let's see if anyone cares. The first release goes out tomorrow. I may or may not get a response from it, but I'm optimistic. It's a fun project with a good cause, so why wouldn't it be newsworthy?
Now to set up my first auction and start on my storyboards. I'm still working on a script polish, but I'm comfortable enough to put my vision to paper. I can also do a detailed breakdown and budget for the film. This way I'll get a true account of how many days I need to plan on shooting which is needed for an accurate budget. The $45,000 should cover it, but this time I can detail everything to the penny. I'm considering putting the final budget up on the site when it's done.
I'm debating on putting up pages from my script. Maybe the first five to ten pages would be a good idea. I'm not sure yet, but I'm definitely leaning in that direction.
