Help Make My Film Production Journal Entry - November 14, 2003 Well it's been a while since I have made an entry. Since the last entry a number of things have happened: First, I quit the band that I was working with because I needed to focus on my project. I also needed better musicians to do the original material. It was inevitable I'd have to quit but an incident with a band member's wife calling me to cancel a recording session because she needed to "get out of the house that night" just hastened the decision. I have never heard of someone who's not in the band calling other band members on a whim to cancel anything, especially a session meant to bring more income into their household, unbelievable. It was hard enough to get them to learn new material but we were recording a new demo of covers so we could work locally. The last couple of months have been frustrating too because I had been dealing with the guitarist's many insecurities since a club owner told him how much he loved my voice but hated his on our first demo CD. We couldn't even get past the cover material that had to be learned so we could start collaborating on the original music for the film and the band. So I had had enough of those guys and now I'm in the process of putting together my own band. I also needed a full "live" band because we were playing with midi files (background tracks) and there is nothing like a live band to give your song a whole new dynamic. So the configuration will be singer, guitar, drums and bass. I might consider a keyboard player if I find one that can add a new dimension to the music that takes our songs to a new level. I've put out some flyers in local music stores where musicians buy their instruments. I've also called some musicians from ads placed in local music magazines. So I'll be meeting and auditioning musicians for the next few weeks or until I get the right blend of musicians for the band. I'll take as long as I need to to get the right players, I refuse to settle for anything less than what I really need. Second, I received a couple of e-mails from the small write up I got in one of the local newspapers. One of which was from a guy named Vince who owns a small independent production company. He has already offered to help me in any way that he can. He has a lot of support to offer with digital camera equipment and editing facilities. His main gig is editing so he'll definitely be a great addition to the team. I'll have more information about him on the website soon. I still need to drop a script off for him to read so I can get more feedback on it. It's always great to get feedback from as many people as possible so that if there are any holes that I've missed in the story or questions are unaswered in the story, someone who's not attached to the script may be able to catch it. So I'll drop that off this weekend, I just had to deal with the band issues first. The stunt is on the front burner again since my focus has been put back on the film. I got so wrapped up into getting the band I was working with in shape that it took all of my free time. So now everything I do is completely attached to this film. So that's it. I have been writing music like crazy for the past three weeks and I've put a small studio together in my home to record the material. So everything's moving forward and I'm much happier about its direction. - Evann Black |
